8-bit acorn hardware • Re: BBC Master keyboard and AIV SCSI issues

Thanks, I've finally had some time to look at this again over the past week and checked out the keyboard lines in more detail. The switches all tested fine individually when checked with my multimeter and I couldn't see anything else wrong checking continuity anywhere on the keyboard itself. I found a diagram of the keyboard matrix but none of the problem keys seemed to be on the same line. I decided to investigate the motherboard a bit more, and since most other things in that area needed lifted and cleaned, I removed the keyboard connectors. The right hand one was totally fine and came out cleanly. The left hand one though... that had some nasty goo underneath it that had started eating into the tops of some of the holes. I also lifted and socketed IC10 which I knew could be related to certain keyboard faults just to clean that area properly as well. It tested fine in my chip tester as I expected. After a thorough cleaning, I soldered the keyboard connecters back down after testing all was well continuity wise.

I'm pleased to say that seems to have restored the machine to full working order :D I'll need to use it a bit more to be extra sure, but haven't had any issues since that cleaning. Fingers crossed it stays good and I've also had things such as Elite running for extended periods without any issues as well. I don't think the weirdness I had noticed with the PSU was related to the keyboard fault, but there was some leakage from the caps and it seems to work perfectly now after being recapped as well :)

I didn't get round to having another look at the AIV board yet, it still has a short between voltage and ground when RP1 is re inserted. I'm not in such a hurry to figure that out though since I don't have any way to test it without the laser disc player, so have just kept that safely to the side for the moment.
