Hmm, not been able to set up the logic analyser yet (waiting for longer USB cables, plus it's a little cold in my basement; when temperatures drop to -10C or lower overnight then things get a little chilly!) but I did some further testing and if I modified VR2 to be as slow as possible then "sound -1,160,0,0" would reliably produce the word "Acorn", just very very slow. As I ramped the speed up I eventually started to hear corruption but still at a slow speed (nowhere near what it should be).
Just a random thought; is it possible the 6100 just can't handle reads quickly enough?
