That'd be me thinking I'd remembered the number correctly when I hadn't.What's an AKF82? Are you mistyping either AKF85 or AKF52 ?
It's an AKF85, the 17-inch one with the LCD on the bottom left of the front panel to show the current mode and set things up.
I've already agreed with a friend to buy everything in the lot except the monitor, and I'm not one to go back on a deal. I figure the machine's worth a couple of hours on the Sunday to give it a vinegar bath and a good clean and assess the damage. A lot of the grot looks flaky, which to me says it's come off the battery casing when it was snipped out.Forget the FPA socket - who has an FPA anyway? (And good luck finding one that works at Alpha speeds, too)
As you know well, you have have a reasonable amount of machine working to even get POSTbox to do anything and that looks like an absolutely horrendous mess. As the rot has gone to IDE/ROM latches, definitely just give up, unless you're a psychopath -- I've got a stack of rotten boards (sans-ARM3) that are much less rotten than that, yet still determined not worth my time to fix - 'just' move the ARM3 over and proceed from there. There's nothing different about an Alpha board, other than the CPU.
If it turns out to be a lost cause after it's had a good clean, I can probably just about make good by selling on the keyboard, mouse and some of the other bits it came with, and turn the ARM3 into an upgrade for another machine. I just don't want to write it off without giving it a fair chance.
I'm hardly pious, so I've got chuff all planned for the Sunday anyway. Might as well.
