I'm still not entirely sure what you're trying to do. Pi5 so you're not running RISC OS on the Pi. I can't comment on the second diagram in your post but I built the cable from the first diagram and it works fine. RS232 hats already exist for Pi (though I don't have a Pi5 so I've never investigated that). I'm still not sure why you wouldn't just use a USB>Serial dongle though. This will allow text transfer with a simple Amazon order.
