As mentioned before by someone, it's possible to get into a groove and theoretically (barring lapses of concentration and other unfortunate things like keypresses not being recognised) go on ad infinitum. I got up to 6 lives at one point during the run. Unfortunately I also suffered the same fate as ManiacMiner in that I died and immediately died again due to an apple falling on my head. I'm not sure whether the score will recognise anything over 99990 as there doesn't look like there's enough space for an extra digit; I don't really want to have another go to try and find out. I posted a screenshot with the level I died on to show just how far into the game I was.
