How to wire depends on which devices are DTE and which are DCE...
Normally a DTE can be connected to a DCE with a "straight through" cable.
Whereas when connecting two DTE devices, a cross-over or null-modem cable is needed.
The inclusion of a switch box does not change this. However, the gender of the connectors on the box may cause issues.
With a DTE, TxD (TD) is an output and RxD (RD) is an input. Whereas on a DCE, it's opposite. It's normally the same for the control signals.
There is a diagram showing the round DIN connector pins here
I don't think an eight pin has the centre pin in the exact same position, but it may work. There are some 5 pin domino plugs on eBay for £3.00
