G is for 'Game'. I've just gotten into the habit of doing that as I've put loads of games compilations together over the years and it allows me to see at a glance if something is a G(ame), D(emo), P(icture) or U(tility).
(Usually I'd put a menu on the disc as well but I wasn't sure if these games were completely finished yet so I didn't bother on this one occasion.)
