I have exactly your setup but with a proper Plus 3 21V AC PSU (aka massive buzzing black box). I also have a 19V DC PSU which I use with my "vanilla" Electron. I could try using the wrong PSU and see what happens...
i have actually ordered a plus 3 psu from ebay meanwhile - be good to have it regardless
