I have a dual cumana disk drive containing a pair of SA455 drives. They are able to read / write to , and format discs without issue in both 40 and 80 track mode. There's something odd about the way they operate though, which might be by design but I'm not sure. Hopefully one of the kind members here can help.
When I power the drives on, the drives spin continuously, not timing out, and only stop spinning after a disc is inserted, and the drive detects a disk that is formatted the same as the 40/80 track selector switches on the back of the drive.
But a 40 track dish in wirh 80 tracks selected on thr dtive switch and the dtive continues to spin.
This is without issuing any commands from the BBC.
The issue persists across different machines.
Is this normal behaviour? If not can anyone give me any pointers as to what could be happening?
