32-bit acorn hardware • Re: A4000 floppy issues

I have now checked all the floppy bus connections and pullups, and they're all fine. So I'm thinking it must be the drive at fault, probably the heads.

Formatting 1.6MB discs consistently gives the same behaviour - chugging initially, followed by formatting the whole disc seemingly OK, then moving about halfway across the disc, chugging again then reporting an error. I think that this halfway point is maybe where the cstalogue is stored? Verify goes straight to halfway then reports errors at &2800, &2C00, &3000 etc.

I found that the drive will read existing 800k and 1.6MB discs almost reliably. If an error develops, re-reading usually works (not always though).

I tried cleaning the heads with a srip of paper soaked in IPA, but they seem fine. I think I need to find a similar drive that can be set to DS0.
