With 2nd processor connected directly, I get repeated 64 from further reads; with 2nd processor connected via the Tube Serial device I use for BeebLink, I get repeated 0s from further reads...

I was going to ask if you were using a different filing system. Don't filing systems usually use R3 to transfer files into the parasite? But there could be differences in exactly what each filing system does that would show up on the initial values read by the test program as, one way or another, that program has to have got into the parasite somehow. Also, is BASIC transferred this way too?
