converting to MP3 is a bad idea as MP3 drops part of the signal to compress it your best bet is to use the highest quality wav or similar format it will improve your chances of being able to do something with the data.If you have it on PC, save as an MP3 onto a cheap mp3 playerHave you thought about recording the signal into your PC and examining the point at which it drops out ?
You might be able to clean up the sound and then re-record onto a new cassette turning a mono track into a “stereo” track.
