Thanks for the tip on how to remove the surface mount electrolytics. I found that I had not changed C28, so I tried out the technique on it, and it worked fine. Better than fine actually - the legs of the cap seemed to disintegrate as I cut into it, so not only was there no pad damage, it gave me hope that maybe they had corroded away and this might have been the cause of the board not booting.
Sadly not though - there's no improvement. I'm now in a position to change the two remaining 47uF caps around the ram, but from your previous observations I'm not sure whether this is likely to make a decisive difference. Any tips on where I should look next?
