I'm also in the hot water and washing up liquid camp for cleaning computer cases, but I would also recommend using a new plastic scourer pad - I find they're much more effective at scraping grot out of the fine texture of the case than a cloth or a sponge would be, even after a soak. The orange-smelling label remover that CPC sells can also be useful for removing sticky residue from tape or labels before washing.
