the battery which shows some corrosion on it, but this does not appear to have spread to the surrounding area.
It's very often battery corrosion which causes this specific issue. Can you get some good photos of the battery and immediate surrounding area?

These batteries always leak, so in any instance you'd want to get this removed from the board and replaced with an offboard cell.

How stable was the image on the monitor? Any vertical "wiggle" visible? Because another reason for VIRQ timing failure is that two capacitors near VIDC have failed (very common) and when they fail do not only cause this issue but also cause the video to go "wiggly". To the untrained eye there may be no leak present, but if you look VERY closely, with the correct lighting, often you would see staining around the capacitor.

Try and get good photos of the areas shown below:
