Welp. I rigged up a battery (waiting on some final parts for this), and was able to persuade the system fairly consistently to boot into BASIC after some magic key presses - I think the D-break needs to come immediately after the R reset - if done later, you can't get to a prompt.
So, for the moment, it appears to be working. I will get a diagnostic ROM in due course since I'm not 100% convinced of the system. Alas, it's all a bit useless right now, since I'm still sans Gotek, and I'm about this close to cancelling my order.
I did find 4 keys that are not working - perhaps some contact cleaner will do the job. I think it's the earlier Master keyboard, not the Cherry one.
Oh, and does someone have the measurements for the case screws? Probably some generic plastic screws will do, seems to be very similar to the C64 ones.
