I'm prettt sure it does test cpu to ram. The moving screen patterns in hires mode are done by modifying the screen bytes. I think it ROLs and RORs the bytes IIRC. The cpu doesn't load program from ram or rely on ram working but you can quickly see a flaws in the screen patterns if ram reads are broken
