32-bit acorn software: other • Homerton and Trinty vs. Helvetica and Times

Hello,

Back in the day I remember reading how Acorn's Homerton and Trinity were like Helvetica and Times, yet sufficiently different in some vague manner to keep the owners off their back. Today with a Mac running Illustrator and https://github.com/marutan/riscos-free-fonts I found out what they'd done.

Here Homerton and Trinity are in transparent red, while Helvetica and Times New Roman are blue. (Apologies for the large PNG, I don't think I can upload an SVG here.)

If you zoom in, most obvious to me is that most letters have different horizontal alignment. Some of the stroke sizes are also different, as are the serif shapes. Helvetica and Trinity really were different, in spite of having the same metrics.

Does anyone know how Acorn acquired their fonts?

All the best,
Dave
