Very sorry if you find my tone rude - absolutely not meant to come across that way at all. My thoughts were just a matter of fact reflection of my current knowledge and understanding as I'm trying to research and come up to speed on the Archimedes scene, and not in any way meant to come across as complaints or attacks on the developers.I think your tone is a little rude - both MAME/Arc and Arculator developers are on this forum, so perhaps try wording your thoughts differently. These excellent projects are both opensource, so do feel free to provide contributions for enhancements yourself.
My thoughts about MAME were based on following a thread that hopped across a couple of forums where finally someone stated the Archimedes driver in MAME was listed as 'not working' and so the enquirer was directed towards trying Arculator instead, which they did, and which is also the path I followed. But that info was a few years old so maybe Archimedes vis MAME is a good option now? Trying to find out is why I signed up and posted!
In calling Arculator's scanlines crude, again absolutely not meant as any kind of attack or complaint. That's just the case compared to modern CRT shaders that some projects support. I'm fully aware these Archimedes projects are done as a hobby by tiny teams or individuals. I have no sense of entitlement or expectations that features I would like will be or should be available, and certainly don't have the talents to contribute myself. Just, as I say, trying to research and get up to speed on what is the current status of things.
In general I try to trawl the net/forums and find out information for myself, but I often find signing up to a forum and asking questions is effective in being pointed in the right direction. I'll continue to try figure things out myself and post here too. Big thanks to all the developers, preservationists, etc, etc that make any of this possible at all as my old hardware is long gone and getting it back isn't an option!
