Thanks for the feedback. I also tried the version that allows installation of CPM onto a Winchester disk. Again my BeebEM (recently downloaded) correctly initialised the CPM disks but I could not seem to enable the Winchester in BeebEm. Must be doing something wrong with BeebEm !
However, by copying the CPM folder over to the IDE CF drive worked I could run the version of CPM directly from the CF drive without a floppy in both Mode 4 and 5 of Z80 ROM on the PITubeDirect. Not as convenient as it remaps the HD to A & B so the TurboMMC drives conflict and cannot be used to store the various floppy discs.
Interesting messing around with both environments .... making old 1980's tech still do this kind of stuff in today is bonkers! The BBC B is a robust machine even after all these years! Running Doom - who would have thought ....
