Hello Dan,

Ian's not suggesting that you don't install !System on your hard disk - quite the opposite, because as you've noted, it's fairly essential. What he's saying is that you shouldn't source a copy from the ROOL website because it focusses on much more modern releases of the OS and won't work well with RO3.11.

A reasonable place to start would be Applications Discs 1 and 2, and the Support Disc found here: https://arcarc.nl/archive/ROMS/OS/OS%20 ... OS%203.10/
I need to replace the CMOS battery so I currently have to hold DELETE to start it up and then "mount" the HD from the Config -> Disks menu every time I boot.
More importantly, have you checked that the old battery isn't leaking and causing damage. That's a really important thing to check.
When booting like this, do I need to run something else to get ROS to load the config scripts, modules and libraries or whatever it would normally load if I had a CMOS battery to save my disk config?
It would be possible to run an Obey file from a floppy disc to do it (you'd only need the command *Configure Harddiscs 1), but I think you'd then need to press Ctrl-Break to get the machine to recognise the changed settings. It's probably easier to just fit a new battery.
