In case no-one has mentioned it yet, there is one vitally important rule that applies when replacing capacitors on any equipment that worked to some extent before you started:
Change ONE CAPACITOR AT A TIME, and test the appliance between each one and the next to make sure you have not made it any worse!
If you think "But that will take ages!", I can promise you, finding and fixing a new fault introduced by mistake (perhaps you made a dry joint, or bridged across two adjacent tracks, or maybe the new capacitor was an electrolytic and you soldered it the wrong way round) will end up taking a lot longer than testing every time. I've seen it happen to too many people. If you only changed one capacitor, and only soldered in one place on the motherboard, you know the fault is most likely to be in the last place you touched. If you changed ten of them, the fault could be with any of the connections you soldered.
