Why? To make ebay more money, of course!
it was something that I held off on using for as long as humanly possible but, finally, one day the "advanced options" button - which allowed you to still select your own settings - had simply disappeared. Not bad, really, as they had initially indicated it would become mandatory two months prior.
Does it suck balls? Yes, it does!
I'm in the same boat with some ultra low weight stuff, as I sell a lot of single comics. What would have cost me £2 to send via Royal Mail is now £2.70. That is quite the mark-up and will definitely be a deterrent on lower value items. Apparently there are exemptions for certain categories of listings and, in such cases, you can still specify your own postage but they're few and far between. Eg. I think that single trading cards may be one such low weight item that allows this.
The system also falls over on large, light items too. I have posters that I want to shift and they are longer than the 61cm maximum that is permitted for any one dimension of a package. Ebay tell me that, for such items, I will now have to log into the Royal Mail site and arrange a collection. I fail to see how this qualifies as "simple"![Evil or Very Mad ]()
