the CARD? error is because its looking for the SD card interface module on the user port, assume you don't have it plugged in.
Is it in fact a BBC model B, 32 Kb ram and fully populated?

Thanks Vanekp, the SD Reader is indeed plugged in, and so is the card.

I don't know what it was originally, but it always used to display BBC Computer 32K, this 16K business is new to me.
