OK So this was very much user error, on my part alone. Thanks as usual go to all who spotted the problems and reported them.
Everyone please accept my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused - I'm acutely aware that this was particularly awkward on the same day and ABUG event was due to start. I'm taking this as a very important lesson to a) leave things well alone and b) especially leave things well alone late at night when somewhat sleep deprived. I think I'll be stepping well away from any fiddling, fettling and fussing on here for a while.
