Mostly nostalgia for me.
The test is whether you can play old games that you didn’t play BITD and properly enjoy them as a game (as opposes to impressive technical achievement etc.).
I can always enjoy a game of Ghouls / Chuckie Egg / Fortress / Elite etc. as I player them a lot first time around but struggle to enjoy most old games I didn’t play.
That said I might just struggle with new things in general. I can happily play hours of Fallout 3 / Vegas / 4 and Skyrim but Baldur’s Gate 3 is a struggle even though I played and loved the earlier Baldur’s Gates. I have a number of new games in my Steam account that never get a look in.
I wonder if it is fear of wasting limited time of stuff I might not enjoy vs stuff I know I do?
