Despite not being great at this game, I do remember that it's not about how far you get into the game; it's all about those bonuses.

Yeah its all about the bonuses, try to score as much as you can early on as the later levels the enemies can get very fast
The enemy speed starts on the setting set on the main menu (default 1) and then increases at set levels
1st speed levels 1-6, 2nd speed levels 7-11, 3rd speed levels 12-17, 4th speed levels 18-99

If you want to view the enemy speed tables they are in ladybug.asm starting at line 4518
