Had a lovely atmospheric drive up to Squamish - new snow on the mountains and lots of low cloud plus mist! Warmly greeted by Ed on arrival, and welcomed by music from James Pond, a catchy little tune. I'd brought a Beeb as well as lots of robotics and control boxes, though I was most interested in achieving a new high score on Eagle's Wing. Using the control box would require brain power and I was feeling a bit lazy!!
Ed kindly gifted me a copy of Elementum, thanks Ed!
Ed was keen to show me his progress on Elementum, such a good game and so well designed. Certainly I saw screens that would take me a very long time to achieve! I then got down to setting a new personal high score on Eagle's Wing, hooray! I also helped Ed with loading a game onto the Oric Atmos. I love that little computer, definitely superior to it's rival the Spectrum.
On side note I noticed how dusty my Beeb keyboard was, quite filthy from many years' neglect! So that's a project to undertake. Also, both the keyboards on my backup Beebs were experiencing sticky keys, not what one needs when game playing. My BBC Master keyboard is better behaved! Looks like I need to spend some time on BBC keyboard maintenance.
A dusty Beeb keyboard!
Next up for me was making a start on assembling a MeArm robot arm. This is Raspberry Pi based. I'm hoping to interface it to a Beeb. In June this year we'll be having another Retro Computing Expo, so I'm planning to exhibit BBC control projects.

We had a break for a wonderful hearty soup lunch Ed had made, very tasty! Ed then asked me to check his 3D printer. My son-in-law had just passed on his old 3D printer to me, so this was a great opportunity for me to refresh my 3D printer skills. (I hadn't done this for over 5 years since I was last teaching!) We tested Ed's printer and all went well using a YouTube video for reference.
I love this little printer, great for Beeb parts!
After some more High Score Challenge action it was time to pack up and head home. I love our ABUG meet ups, and I'm looking forward to lots of Acorn action in 2025!
Happy New Year everyone!
