Hi,
So, it's taken a day or so and I'm making some progress with the A440/1 (upgraded A440) that I recently got. So far:
- Keyboard sorted, some keys not working.
- New fan on order, as it's super loud.
- Looking in to changing the HDD with a CF card, the machine already has an SimtechIDE installed.
- Got my econet (pi bridge) working and I can use that to transfer files between the Arc and my PC, meaning I don't have to use disks.
- OS3.10 ROMs installed.
- Fixed the broken wires on the battery pack (new one on order as the current is a bit corroded).. had the scare of it not booting up and doing anything (thought I'd broken it, although I didn't know how I could have) but then holding "r" on start brought everything back (got this from forum searches here, this site has been so useful).
Anyway... now I am trying to get it to do stuff, which is where I am having "fun and games". Lots of odd error messages that I don't understand like "runs too low".... I am trying to understand how to get my way around this machine then I can spend some time setting it up just how I want... (whatever that is, I'm not entirely sure yet).
At the moment the HDD has 3 partitions (which oddly use a different icon to the standard icon I've seen), those are "data", "Games" and "System". I'm wondering if I simply "restore" the machine to a general and known good configuration state? But I don't really know what I am doing.. is anyone willing, or has the patience to help me out and give me some pointers on where I might start with this thing?![Smile :)]()
Tasks I want to do...
- Sort out my file storage..
- Get a means to get software (games, utils) onto the machine so I can run them on HDD rather than disk (I've been looking at "sparkplug!" not entirely sure what this is, some kind of decompression software? .. also ADFFS!, which I believe is a floppy drive emulation allowing me to boot from floppy images.. can't get this to work either.. )
- Backup the disks I have, in some form so I don't lose the data.
- Be able to backup the entire contents of the machines HDD using my econet connection to files on my PC, so if the drive goes pop, it's a minor inconvenience.
Thanks
Craig
