This would include handling VDU 7. I can’t remember if it still works if the configuration is not set to a language though.

Yes, on the Master if the configured language isn't a language ROM, you get the error "This is not a language" and then a supervisor prompt so you can actually do something about it (unlike BBC B which gives the "Language?" error and then locks up.)
