Yes, C500. You can't read the value of a capacitor in circuit, as you've found. And 18pF is too low to read reliably with hobby gear anyway. The "alternative paths" are all as shown on the schematic - primarily via the RTC itselfI assume you mean C500, shown as 18pF on the schematic? If I put a meter across this on one of the other boards, I get a capacitance reading (nowhere near what it ought to be, but there are probably alternative paths going on). Whereas, on this board, I get a solid zero. The actual traces leading into it are fine.
It's an 0805 size, right?

Yes, it's an 0805 but 0603 will fit just as well. The 18pF isn't critical.
