On the beeb you're using the shift register on the 6522. Have a look at the MMFS code, but my ignorant skim of it suggests 1/16th of phi-2, which is ~125khz? I'm probably totally wrong as 1) I don't know what I'm looking at and 2) strange things happen when you access the 6522 as it's on the slow bus.
