Hi Phil,Wizzo might not help you if the CF card is incompatible with the internal IDE interface in the first place. They're quite hit and miss.
I've had good luck with Transcend cards, the compatibility list I maintain is here: viewtopic.php?p=281360#p281360
This is the ROM image I used for the Wizzo ROM, in both of my A4s: viewtopic.php?p=250262#p250262
There isn't an easy way to upgrade ADFS in the RISC OS ROMs, they're actually 1MB 16-bit-wide ROMs. You'd have to patch ADFS and update the checksums. An easier way would be to build a new 5th Column ROM with the Portable and BatMan modules, and a patched ADFS, but it would cost you some RMA memory.
Thank you very much for the pointers! I burned a 27C512 EEPROM with your Wizzo 3v15 A4 ROM, switched over to IDEFS ("*Configure FileSystem IDEFS" and "*Configure Dir"), bought and fitted your recommended 2GB Transcend 133 CF card, and used !IDEFormat to create two separate 480MB partitions, and it seems to be working very happily now - thank you very much indeed!
Does anyone have any idea why "HDD0" (the name of my primary partition) shows up twice on the taskbar? When I click on the one to the right, the cursor shows "busy" indefinitely and I can't use the floppy drive.
I just need to do some finishing up now, fitting some velcro on the CF card adapter to hold it in place, and fitting the brightness/contrast knobs.
I've removed the leaky NiCad batteries from the battery pack and I'm leaving it empty, the owner is happy to use the A4 from the PSU anyway - is there any way to trick the OS into realising that the battery is dead or full rather than open-circuit, so I don't just get a "?" in the % box?
Many thanks,
Adam
