Yes that was my first thought, I separated the membrane and thoroughly cleaned both sides with isoprop, there was quite a lot of chalky residue. I can't see anything that shouldn't be there now!

As the back was quite corroded, I did wonder whether it might be slightly raised, but I have sanded the corrosion away and it is quite smooth now, so I don't think that's it? Looking at the keypress action, I guess the tolerance is quite tight, so I will try cleaning it again!
