To me, an Acorn machine is a base system that Acorn actually sold. Add accessories to taste.

Contemporary accessories, perhaps. Otherwise, we're back to stuffing modern gadgetry into the case.

What about the Simtec Hydra board and derivatives? They might just about squeeze under the authenticity bar:
