Are there any apps that are specifically good at producing annotated documents? Like annotated program listings or hex dumps?
Like, I know you can draw boxes in Word or whatever but I'd like something where I can say, specifically this piece of text needs a box around it and a callout where I can explain it, and if the text moves then the annotation automatically reflows with it, etc.
Asking because I had to code-golf my recent BBC Micro program General Election 2024 Results Explorer, removing all the REMs and cutting down the variable names, to make it all fit in memory, so I thought it'd be nice to be able to create an annotated PDF version of the listing and the data file format (not just for everyone else's reference but my own as well) so it's clearer what everything is.
