I know 20k Get requests is high, but I think its only about 2000 list/put requests before they charge you so decided against using S3 as the backend storage
...
That's the main reason I went the alternative way with your script. Copy the backups to the NAS, and then upload the archive to S3 from there.
FWIW, I think S3 is only free for 12 months (5Gb, 20k GET requests, 2K PUT requests). At least https://aws.amazon.com/free/?all-free-t ... ree-tier=1 says "12 months free"

Of course, at 2.3c/Gb the amount of data a typical Acorn will store will be a rounding error and may come out at zero anyway. The API calls (0.5c per 1000 calls) might cost a penny or two.

(I have an Alexa skill that uses non-free resources but at last month I made 45 API requests, at $1.16 per million requests the bill is zero).

And, yeah, I wasn't thinking of using S3FS as the primary filesystem, but as the pseudo-tape filesystem ("MDFS tape API into AWS s3") so Chris didn't have to code S3 stuff directly.
