Sorry not to have dropped in recently, but I paid a visit earlier on this evening, read through some of the blog posts and other content that I didn't look at before. For instance, the guide to other BBSs has led me to check out some of those this evening, as well. There's not been much interest overall but been glad of
the friendly enthusiastic callers Night Owl has had, unfortunately
most don't return often enough to make this project worth continuing
long term.
I think it is a nice resource for community information and news, although we're all spoilt with the Web these days, where everything is much quicker and fancier. Still, there is something therapeutic about doing things at a slower pace, with simpler technology, and it isn't really so far off how certain Internet services were thirty years ago or so, either.Night Owl is a very niche BBS, it really relies on Acorn people
calling in so Stardot is where I hoped it's existence would resonate.
Viewdata is still a bit of a learning experience for me, just as the pre-Web Internet once was, I guess: today's discovery was that typing *# (* then Return in the Jafa Prestel terminal) goes up a level in the page hierarchy. Maybe that's written in some manual or other.
I appreciate the effort you've put in, particularly all the pages that you have designed to illuminate various topics. Doing something like that and making a little world of its own was something I imagined doing back in the day, but it was obviously out of reach for most of us. I hope you can put the service up every now and again on a schedule that suits you, and perhaps people will be motivated to take a look with adequate preparation, not being put off by the technology which seemed pretty intimidating back in the day.
Thanks once again for the service!
