Each drive or device uses one of the possible two (for Acorn systems, but the Shugart floppy standard allows for a possible four) select lines (denoted as DS0 through DS3 or DS1 through DS4). Some drives only run their motor when they are currently selected. Hence it’s possible that either there is a poor connection on the computer end, or on the drive end. Or an problem with the cable. It is also possible that the DS drive selection link/jumper shunt in the drive has a poor connection.
To clean the connectors, remove and reinsert then three to five times. This normally goes the job.
Have you tried swapping the two around? That is, if the GOTEK is the first drive, and the real drive is the second, by changing the selection link/jumper shunt to make the real drive the first and changing the GOTEK to make it the second drive.
