I was involved in the Acorn 8-bit (6502) and 32-bit (ARM) computing world for many years. I worked as a BBC Micro programmer at Netherhall Educational Software (owned by the Cambridge University Press) in 1986. Later I worked with the guys at Phoenix Software who provided mail-order fulfilment, editorial and pre-press support services to a national computer hobbyist magazine publisher.
We worked on magazine titles such as A&B Computing, Archimedes World, Disk User and Fast Forward. I was the author of a few programs and games published in the magazines. I was technical editor of the magazine cover disks. I also wrote the regular monthly Nearly Free PD software review column in Archimedes World that ran for a decade. I eventually established my own software publishing business, launching the Matt Black and Atomic Software software labels.
We published software in the UK for the Acorn Archimedes and Risc PC range of computer systems.
We published the ClickArt brand of clip art collections under the Matt Black label and a range of arcade action games:
- Aggressor
- Blood Sport
- Bobbie Blockhead Vs The Dark Planet
- Spheres of Chaos
under the Atomic Software label.
In case anyone is wondering, my name is not Matt Black. I chose that name for my clip art label because it is the most common colour used in Desktop Publishing and printing which I thought was appropriate for a publisher of clip art software. ClickArt for the Acorn Archimedes/Risc PC was licenced from a US company called T-Maker which was based in Silicon Valley, California, USA.
Hi to anyone on this forum who I used to work with, bought our products or read the magazines I helped to produce each month.
